Day 1 - Sat     Extended Journal & Pictures

Scripture

Proverbs 19:11

Prayer Needs

Patience

Planned

Finish packing, drive to Atlanta, meet Dave & Karen Bearchell for dinner, meet Fred and Cathy for overnight stay, get some rest.

Actual

It pretty much turned out this way but with some pretty high stress prior to finally leaving home for Atlanta (I failed the wisdom test in the scripture verse for today).  Great dinner with Dave and Karen.  Nice to spend time with Fred and Cathy.

Day 2 - Sun     Extended Journal & Pictures

Scripture

James 4:13

Prayer Needs

Wisdom to see God’s plans in this trip.

Planned

Get up around 6:00am, prepare to catch the hotel shuttle at 8:30.  Check in and catch the 10:50 flight.

Actual

Called to see what gate the flight was leaving from and found out the flight on our confirmation was not leaving today.  Finally found out that we were on a later flight (1:30pm) so spent the extra 3 hours working on the website.  T.I.A.  Getting through check  in at the airport was ok and we’re sitting at gate T11 waiting for our flight to Chicago.

Day 3 - Mon     Extended Journal & Pictures

Scripture

Acts 22:21

Prayer Needs

Pray that God will begin to prepare us to do His will while we are in Liberia.

Planned

Travel from Brussels to Monrovia after a 5 hour layover.  Arrive at 7:20pm, clear customs and then meet Robert for a trip to Laurence and Christine Norman’s guest house where Carl Hadley, Duane and Lynn Riley are waiting on us.

Actual

This was one of the better flights I’ve had from Chicago to Brussels.  It’s always the toughest leg of the flight but somehow it didn’t hurt quite as bad.  Robert and Peter were waiting for us and we had a good trip back to the Normans where we met up with our U.S. friends and enjoyed a reunion with our Liberian friends as well.

Day 4 - Tue     Extended Journal & Pictures

Scripture

Acts 13:47

Prayer Needs

Pray that we can both rest and also take care of some planning that needs to be accomplished prior to going to the Children’s Village.

Planned

Give Fred, Cathy and Gayla a day to rest.  Get to know the couple that have come to assist Carl at the Children’s Village.  Spend time with Laurence Norman and Robert Cuppah.

Actual

Today was a day to rest and prepare.  This was Cathy’s first visit to Liberia and also Duane and Lynn Riley’s.  It was a day to get acquainted and reacquainted.  Shadrach and Robert visited and we prepared for tomorrow’s long journey.  As always, the food is great.

Day 5 - Wed     Extended Journal & Pictures

Scripture

Acts 23:11

Prayer Needs

Travel mercies during a long and somewhat dangerous trip to Sinoe County.

Planned

Leave early for the 208 mile trip to the Children’s Village during some of the heaviest rain of the rainiest area on earth.

Actual

This is my fastest trip ever. 13 hours to go 208 miles.  The Toyota had one flat tire and the brakes went out on the Ford.  Other than that the vehicles performed well.  The roads, as always, were terrible.  We were greeted with excitement and food upon arrival.

Day 6 - Thu     Extended Journal & Pictures

Scripture

Acts 2:46

Prayer Needs

Pray that the women who attend the first night of the services will see God’s truth and that it will transform their lives

Planned

Recover for the trip and prepare for women’s meeting.  Acclimate Cathy and Gayla to the Children’s Village environment.

Actual

Plans changed somewhat in that the women’s conference began at 10am and I was scheduled to speak tonight at 6.  Both services went well.

Day 7 - Fri     Extended Journal & Pictures

Scripture

Acts 3:17-19

Prayer Needs

Pray that those attending the various meetings today will be encouraged to grow in their faith.

Planned

Continue the community meetings.

Actual

Lynn started at 9am teaching the children music.  Sometime after 10 we had a session on husbands having only one wife.  Then Shadrach spoke during the morning (afternoon) session.  Lunch was served and we rested.  Pastor Wessah spoke during the evening session and we met with the teachers and 6 seniors after the service.

Day 8 - Sat     Extended Journal & Pictures

Scripture

Acts 4:13

Prayer Needs

Pray that those who do not know Christ as Savior will be called by God and will respond to that call.

Planned

Final day of gospel meetings for the community.

Actual

Due to needing to decorate for the graduation, the morning session was the conclusion of the revival meetings.  Carl spoke on our love for the Liberian people and worked through God’s love for them using Psalm 23.  We met with the Karmo Town village elders during the afternoon and received a very special gift (you’ll want to read the full journal to see that).  The evening included a visit to Karmo Town.

Day 9 - Sun     Extended Journal & Pictures

Scripture

I Corinthians 4:2

Prayer Needs

Pray that the 6 graduating seniors from Suwanne Baptist High School will embark on a life lived according to God’s purpose.

Planned

Attend church services and then the 1st senior graduation of the Children’s Village school.

Actual

The graduation ceremony was good and long.  But it was worth it to see the first 6 graduates of the Children’s Village.  We learned that some bridges that we have to cross were set to be out of service for 10 days starting tomorrow so a hasty plan to make it back to Monrovia tonight was implemented.

Day 10 - Mon   Extended Journal & Pictures

Scripture

Romans 15:1

Prayer Needs

Travelling mercies for the trip back to Monrovia.

Planned

Get an early start back to Monrovia.  This is an all day long trip that can be incredibly tiring and, at times, dangerous.

Actual

Due to rumored bridge closings, we left for Monrovia last night and arrived this morning at 8:30am.  Today was a day of rest for everyone.

Day 11 - Tue   Extended Journal & Pictures
