Prior
to departure:
Pray for today- That we will be properly prepared
for the purpose that God has given us on this trip.
Planned- Pack and prepare. Pray and spend time with God
Actual- Packing occurred the night before leaving
and ended at about 1:30 this morning.
|
|
Saturday,
November 3rd (click for full journal and photos):
Pray for today- That we will make all flights and
that we will be able to sleep on the flight over so that we can have a
productive trip without losing a complete day to recovery.
Planned- Go by Clark Iron and weigh our bags
(limited to 2 bags each at 50 lb maximum). Reach the Nashville airport 2 hours
early and meet up with David and Beccy in Atlanta for the flight over
to Brussels.
Actual- Got away from home about 30 minutes
late. Weighed the bags (47, 50,
51 and 30 lbs). Flight left on
time and we’ve met up with David, Matt and Beccy in the Atlanta airport. It’s almost time to board so
hopefully I’ll be able to update this in Brussels.

Sunday, November
4th (click for full journal and photos):
Pray for today- That we arrive safely into
Monrovia and do not have too much difficulty going through customs.
Planned- Arrive in Monrovia this evening and make
it to the Baptist Compound in time to get a good night’s rest.
Actual- We made it in about an hour late. Both Laurence Norman and Robert
Cuppah were there to greet us.
Laurence had a dinner waiting for us at his place and then
Robert took us to the Baptist Compound where we visited and then slept
in a horizontal position for the first time in 48 hours.
|
|

5th (click for full journal and photos):
Pray for today- Full recuperation of energy for
the team and the safe arrival of Matt, Jan and Mario.
Planned- Preparation time with Robert, visit with
World Hope International and dinner with Laurence.
Actual- Well, we really didn’t accomplish the
first 2 objectives. Robert was
busy working with our container which is at the port, making last
minute arrangements for tomorrow’s Crown conference and then picking up
the guys from the airport. We
did manage to eat dinner, however.
(Probably the Baptist in me setting the priorities.)

Pray for today- That God will reveal the property
He has for us and that our visit to Mercy Ships will help us understand
better ways to serve others.

buildings that are potential business and office locations. Enjoy dinner with the Mercy Ships
crew, take a tour and join in their community service.
Actual- We visited 3 potential property sites,
stops by the Liberian Ministries’ ice business, visited James’
children’s school and toured the Mercy Ships Veletta. A great day. A
special section about Keith and Kristin Chapman and Mercy Ships has been added here.

|
Friday, November
9th (click for full journal and photos):
Pray for today- Pray that the property transfer
process will go smoothly. Also
that we can serve the Wesleyan churches ministry efforts. Importantly that we can form
relationships with government officials so that we can serve and
influence.
Planned- Visit the Bensonville property that we
are helping REAP to acquire, review the business needs of Isaac Wheigar
(Wesleyan church) and sponsor a dinner with some key government
ministers.
Actual- Major Dixon of the Salvation Army called
with a piece of property that we should see so we visited that at 10am,
delivered mail until after 12:00 and then returned to the Norman’s for
rest and a dinner meeting with Jan and Mario.

understanding of the work of World Vision and how we might partner with
them in certain ministry
opportunities. Also that
our ministry friends would understand how much we appreciate what they
do.
Planned- Visit World Hope and host an ”open
house” dinner for several of our ministry friends.
Actual- We have yet to make contact with World
Hope (maybe on the next visit) but did spend time with Shadrach Saywon
of Liberian Ministries, Isaac Wheigar of the Wesleyan Church of Liberia
plus hosted a small dinner for some religious, business and
governmental leaders.

to departure will be conclusive and meaningful.
Planned- Spend the morning with Robert finalizing
plans for STS. Prepare for our
departure from Liberia.
Actual- After another of Esther’s great
breakfasts, Gayla, Beccy and David went with James into the markets to pick
up a few things to take back to family members. Robert came over first thing and we
spent the entire morning working through the priority items that have
to be accomplished.
|
|
Thursday, November
15th (click for full journal and photos):
Pray for today- Traveling mercies (that we will
make all of our connections).
Planned- Arrive in Brussels and then depart for
home. Gayla will be leaving to
visit our daughter and son-in-law in Switzerland for 5 days.
Actual- We made it to Brussels on time and, as
much as it pains me, I have to say that David outserved me on the
trip. Gayla left us there for
Switzerland as David, Beccy and Rodney traveled to Atlanta.
|
|
Aftershock:
Pray for today- That the follow through from the
trip would be done in a timely and thorough manner.
